Janet Murphy was appointed Network Director for the VA Midwest Health Care Network, Veterans Integrated Service Network (VISN) 23 in Minneapolis, MN effective August 29, 2010. In this position, she serves as the senior official for the Veterans Health Administration (VHA) in Iowa, Minnesota, Nebraska, North Dakota, South Dakota and portions of the bordering states of Kansas, Illinois, Missouri, Wisconsin, and Wyoming.  VA Midwest Health Care Network, also known as Veterans Integrated Service Network (VISN) 23, is one of 21 Veteran Integrated Service Networks within the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) Veterans Health Administration.

In 2001 Ms. Murphy joined the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs and was appointed Director, VISN 23 Primary and Specialty Medicine Service Line.  She was responsible for primary and specialty medicine including; development of innovative programs to address disease management and population health, expansion of access to rural health, planning and development of Community Based Outpatient Clinics, systems re-design, strategies to reduce variation in health care cost and delivery and maximization of technology to enhance health care delivery.  She also served as Director of the VISN 23 Chronic Disease Collaborative, VISN 23 Patient Centered Medical Home Collaborative, Chair of the VISN 23 Executive Leadership Governance Council, and served as member of the VISN 23 Strategic Planning Council. 

 

Ms. Murphy has over 25 years of health care leadership experience.  She graduated cum laude from San Francisco State University with Bachelor of Arts degrees in Health Science and Spanish and earned a Master of Business Administration from San Francisco State University.
