Dr. Brian Neil is the Acting Chief Medical Officer for the VA Midwest Health Care Network (VISN 23), leading Veterans Health Administration facility clinical operations for the 10 states and 392,000 square miles included within VISN 23.

Dr. Neil received his undergraduate degree in Chemistry from St. John’s University in Collegeville, MN, and his M.D. from the University of Chicago, Pritzker School of Medicine. He then completed both an Internal Medicine residency and a fellowship in Endocrinology at the University of Minnesota, and is board-certified in both.

After 5 years of clinical practice in the private sector, he began his career with the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs in 1994 at the Minneapolis VA Medical Center. His interests in improving clinical processes of care, especially with the use of computerized information systems, led to progressively evolving roles, and in 2008 he became the VISN 23 Chief of Clinical Informatics. In addition to his VISN 23 roles, he continues to provide clinical care to Veterans at the Minneapolis VA Medical Center

With his clinical and administrative experiences, Dr. Neil continues to serve on multiple local, regional and national work groups.
